Bohr Materials

About Bohr Materials

Serving the people who build tomorrow.

Why we're named Bohr

We take our name from Niels Bohr, who founded the Institute for Theoretical Physics in Copenhagen in 1921 and kept it open to researchers who could not otherwise have afforded to be there. The same principle applies to the materials research runs on, where the barrier today is cost.

The gap we fill

Small quantities of high-purity material are available if you look hard, but you will usually pay many times the material cost, wait a month or more, and in most cases cannot see a price at all until you request a quote. What comes back is priced on what the seller thinks you will pay, not on what the material costs.

Catalogues in this industry are built around institutional procurement. Anyone outside that system, whether a PhD student, a two-person startup or a small manufacturer, has historically had to clear mandatory account applications, credit checks and minimum order quantities before they could buy anything at all. At Bohr Materials none of that is mandatory: buy by card in a couple of minutes, no account and no minimum order. If your institution's purchasing office still needs the paperwork trail, we also take purchase orders, with Net 30 and Net 60 terms available. Producers sell by the drum; labs need grams. Bohr Materials breaks the same production runs into research-scale lots, from the first gram to production kilos, and the catalog is growing.

Most of what a small buyer pays is not the material. It is the markup added at each step between them and the refinery, and the upsell applied to anyone ordering in small amounts.

Backed by certified industry leaders

Bohr Materials buys from multiple suppliers, including Vital Materials and Great Western Inorganics (GWI). Vital is a major producer of selenium, tellurium, bismuth and indium, with three decades of industry experience. The source behind every lot is known. We work producer-direct, which is what lets us price the way we do.

Vertically integrated

Our suppliers control the chain from raw material to finished product, with decades of experience in rare metals.

Traceable to the lot

Every lot ships with the producer's certificate of analysis, referenced to the lot number on the label.

Who we serve

Individuals, university labs, research institutes, deep-tech startups and R&D teams worldwide, working in thermoelectrics, optics, photovoltaics, semiconductors, battery materials and materials science.
