Single-Crystal Seed & Substrate Plates

Three square single-crystal diamond seed plates on a white background.

Oriented single-crystal plates used as the substrate chip for homoepitaxial diamond growth.

A diamond seed is the substrate chip on which single-crystal diamond is synthesised: a single-crystal wafer of specific orientation and high integrity. During growth, carbon atoms use the seed's crystal structure as a blueprint, extending along the seed surface and matching its lattice.

Plates are supplied front (100), side (110), with an off-angle under 3 degrees, and free of polycrystalline regions, cracks and other defects.

  • Excellent crystal quality, crack-free
  • Precise crystal orientation control
  • Flexible and customisable specifications
  • Stable physical and chemical properties

Applications

Seed and substrate plates are the starting point for everything grown homoepitaxially, and are used directly in several of the same end markets.

  • Cutting and abrasive tools
  • Semiconductors and electronic devices
  • Optical and laser devices
  • Quantum computing
  • Single-crystal heat sinks
