Typical applications
Bismuth telluride thermoelectrics consume most research tellurium. Stoichiometric weigh-ins of Te with Bi, Sb and Se feed zone melting and Bridgman growth of p-type (Bi,Sb)2Te3 and n-type Bi2(Te,Se)3 for room-temperature modules; feed purity sets the carrier concentration of the grown ingot, which is why zone growth runs start from 6N (99.9999%) material.
In II-VI semiconductors, tellurium is the anion source for CdTe thin-film photovoltaics and for CdZnTe crystals used in room-temperature gamma and X-ray detectors, where sub-ppm impurity levels govern carrier lifetime and detector resolution. The same feedstock serves HgCdTe growth for infrared focal-plane work.
Phase-change memory alloys such as Ge2Sb2Te5 are prepared from elemental Te by melt-quenching or as sputter-target feed. Tellurium-based chalcogenide glasses extend infrared transmission beyond the As-Se window, and TeO2 is the standard feed for paratellurite acousto-optic crystal growth.
Packaging
Shot and ingot lots are packed in sealed polyethylene containers inside padded cartons. Each label carries the product code, lot number, net weight and grade. In-stock lots typically dispatch within 2 business days.
