Applications

Bi2S3 is the synthetic form of the mineral bismuthinite and a 1.3 eV semiconductor. It is studied for thermoelectrics as doped and nanostructured bulk material, and used in solution-processed visible and near-infrared photodetectors. In photocatalysis it is typically the narrow-gap partner in a heterojunction.
