Applications
SeO2 is a long-established stoichiometric oxidant, used for allylic oxidation of alkenes and for oxidation of alpha C-H bonds next to electron-withdrawing groups. It is also a selenium source: for the manufacture of other selenium compounds, and in electrodeposition baths that grow selenide films such as CdSe. That film route is solution-phase, with the SeO2 dissolved in the plating bath.
