Applications
SbBr3 is the antimony source for growing lead-free antimony halide perovskite-like single crystals such as (CH3NH3)3Sb2Br9, which have been built into metal-semiconductor-metal photodetectors. Outside thin-film work it is a long-standing route to other antimony compounds, a mordant in textile dyeing and finishing, and a reagent in analytical chemistry; water hydrolyses it to antimony oxybromide and hydrobromic acid. In antimony trioxide plus organobromine flame-retardant systems SbBr3 is the volatile species generated in situ during combustion, the gas-phase radical inhibitor rather than an additive blended into the polymer.
