Applications
SbCl3 has a long industrial record as a Lewis acid and polymerization catalyst, as a mordant for cloth and patent leather, and as a route to other antimony salts and to flame-retardant treatments for textiles and plastics. In photovoltaics it has been reported as an SbCl3 interface layer that passivates the surface of solution-processed Sb2S3 planar thin-film solar cells. It fumes in air and is decomposed by water to hydrochloric acid and antimony oxychloride.
